Wilmette Tree Removal
Planning tree removal in Wilmette
Prepare a clear description of the tree and the work you want before comparing estimates. Include its location, nearby obstacles, access, and whether you want the stump and debris removed.
North Shore Tree Care is an independent referral website. We do not perform tree work. A request does not guarantee a provider match, an estimate, or an appointment.
Check the permit threshold and tree location
Wilmette requires a removal permit for private-property trees measuring at least 6 inches in diameter at breast height, measured 54 inches above the ground. A permit is also required for a tree of any size in the village right-of-way.
The village’s application requirements include a plat of survey showing the trees proposed for removal. Confirm the current process before scheduling work.
Wilmette tree preservation requirementsWhat if the tree is dead or diseased?
Do not assume that its condition removes the permit requirement. Wilmette says potential permit fees or replacement requirements are waived when its Tree Preservation Officer determines that a tree is dead, dying, or diseased after review.
Prepare for the site visit
- Identify the tree on your survey, if available
- Describe the concern and any recent changes you have noticed
- Note gate access, parking constraints, structures, and overhead wires
- List stump grinding, chip removal, and yard restoration separately
- Tell the provider about permit applications or village inspections already completed
Ask who is responsible for the permit and whether all proposed work is included in the written estimate.
